Virender Sehwag-led IPL team Delhi Daredevils registered a 10-wicket victory against Kings XI Punjab in a rain reduced T20 match at Cape Town on Sunday (April 19). Kings XI Punjab scored 104 for seven wickets after being sent to bat first by Daredevils skipper Sehwag. The match was initially reduced to 12 overs each side because of the wet outfield. However when the rain came again, the initial target of 105 was revised and set to 54 from six over.
The opening pair of Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir achieved the victory target of 54 runs with seven balls left. Sehwag scored 38 runs off 16 deliveries to out class Kings XI Punjab. Put in to bat first, Punjab openers Karan Goel (38 from 21 balls) and Ravi Bopara (22 from 16 balls) got off to a good start, putting on 67 for the first wicket. But New Zealand’s left-arm spinner Daniel Vettori showed some excellent display of spin bowling and restricted Kings XI Punjab to 104 for seven in their stipulated12 overs.
Daniel Vettori took three wickets for 15 runs in his three overs. Apart from Bopara and Goel, only skipper Yuvraj Singh (16 from 11 balls) was able to reach the double figures. In the opening matches of IPL-2, Mumbai Indians defeated Chennai Super Kings while Royal Challengers Bangalore won against Rajasthan Royals.
