Delhi Daredevils regained the top spot on IPL table by defeating Mumbai Indians in a low-scoring match held at East London on Friday (May 8). Electing to bat first after winning the toss, Mumbai Indians began their innings badly by losing Luke Ronchi (0) and JP Duminy (0) with only two runs on the scoreboard. Apart from Dwayne Bravo (35 off 30), none of the Mumbai Indians batsmen could perform well. Mumbai skipper Sachin Tendulkar was looking determined in his shot selection but got run out while stealing a single from the Delhi wicket keeper, Dinesh Karthik.
The entire Mumbai Indians team was bundled out for mere 116 runs. All the bowlers of Delhi Dare Devils were impressive with their line and length and young Rajat Bhatia claimed three wickets by conceding only 15 runs in four overs. Besides Bhatia, Dirk Nannes and Ashish Nehra took two wickets each. Defending the low total, the Mumbai Indians' bowlers also showed some display of tight bowling but that was not enough.
The Delhi team was finding it difficult to score but Sachin's decision of introducing himself in the 16th over turned the match in favour of Daredevils. AB de Villiers scored 19 runs from that Tendulkar over. The South African batsman remained not out on 50 to lead his team to yet another victory. De Villiers was well supported by Tillakaratne Dilshan (17). With this win, Delhi Daredevils grabbed the top spot on IPL table with 12 points.
