Rajat Bhatia's sensational bowling helped Delhi Daredevils to register a thrilling victory over Deccan Chargers at Kingsmead on Wednesday (May 13). The Delhi team defeated the Chargers by 12 runs. Daredevils posted a challenging total of 173 runs for the loss of seven wickets after being sent to bat first by Chargers' captain Adam Gilchrist. Wicket-keeper batsman Dinesh Karthik put up a great show with the bat to help Daredevils reach such a daunting score. Karthik remained unbeaten on 44 runs from 23 balls with 4 fours and 3 massive sixes.
Apart from Karthik, South African batting sensation AB de Villiers blasted 44 off 36 deliveries, hitting 4 fours and one six. The opening pair of Gautam Ghambhir (19) and David Warner (6) could not perform well and perished early. But after their departure, Tillekeratne Dilshan (37 off 18) and De Villiers managed to repair the early damages. But the final assault was inflicted by Karthik who scored 23 runs off the last over of the match. Much was expected from Virender Sehwag, who missed the last four matches for a finger injury, but he could manage only 11 runs before being dismissed by Chaminda Vass.
When the Chargers came out to chase down the runs, skipper Adam Glichrist gave his team a flying start. The Aussie batsman piled up 64 from just 33 balls, hitting 5 fours and 5 fours. When Glichrist was batting, it seemed that Chargers would finish the match much earlier. He was just devastating with his powerful stoke-play. Gilly was dismissed by young Pradip Sangwan. After Glichrist, it was Andrew Symonds' turn to punish the bowlers. Just like Gilly, Symonds was also in attacking mood while scoring 41 off 22 balls. The turning point of the match was the dismissal of Symonds at the hands of Rajat Bhatia. The entire Hyderabad team was bowled out for 161 in 19.4 overs. Bhatia took four wickets by conceding just 15 runs. He was declared the man of the match.
