After a string of losses Delhi Daredevils beat Deccan Chargers by 12 runs at the Feroz Shah Kotla statdium on Thursday, May 15, 2008, to register their fifth win in the IPL. Batting first, the Daredevils put up a formidable total of 194 runs in 20 overs. Gautam Gambhir (79 runs, 7X4, 3 X6) and Shikhar Dhawan(68 runs, 8X4) were the star performers for the hosts who lost Virender Shewag for a duck. Gambhir and Dhawan put up a vital partnership of 133 runs for the second wicket. Maharoof (19 runs) and Dilshan(14 runs) chipped in with useful contributions. For the Deccan Chargers, Ojha picked up 2 wickets whereas Vijaykumar claimed 1 victim.
The Deccan Chargers started their reply on a positive note though they lost Gilchrist early. But the loss of wickets at regular intervals retarded their progress. Afridi (33 runs), Gibbs (22 runs), Rohit Sharma (35 runs), Styris (29 runs) and Venugopal Rao (34 runs) all got starts but failed to score big. Amit Mishra was the pick of bowlers for the hosts claiming 5 wickets for just 17 runs which included a hat-trick. Mishra dismissed Ravi Teja, Ojha and RP Singh of successive deliveries to claim the second hat-trick of the IPL. Delhi is placed fifth on the points table with 10 points from 10 games.
