Delhi Couture Week To Show Off Expensive Crystals

Sumant Jaykrishnan has names like Louis Vuitton, Chanel and Dior to have worked with in the past. Now, after the tie-up of highly expensive crystal manufacturers Swarovski Elements, he is all set to show off his magnificent and marvelous 12 and a half foot tall installation on the Couture ramp.

The installation is as beautiful as one can be; it is made of expensive crystals featuring a cosmic stone at the center and a bed of mirrored surface.

However, showcasing the expensive installation will not cheer Sumant much as he had plans to manifest 20-foot high crystal chandelier on the Couture ramp. The chandelier is a masterpiece in itself, but now it can’t be displayed any more as the venue has shifted to indoors due to rains and the height of the ceiling can’t support the chandelier.

Another show off piece from Sumant will be sheets of layered glass which will be nine feet in height.

Sumant adds, “I have used about two lakh crystals in all. And it has taken a month and a half and several teams working on specialized tasks to finish the project.”

Other Bollywood personalities like Vidya Balan and Rani Mukherjee have already walked the ramp and now it’s the turn of Anil Kapoor for the same. Although, he will be seen on the ramp for promoting Sonam Kapoor’s next flick, ‘Aisha’.

He also says that these pricey installations are although exclusively made for Delhi Couture Week, but they can be reused in course of other high profile events.

Talking about the cost of the installations, he reveals, “Crystals can vary from Rs 30 to Rs 1,500 per piece. Since we’ve used about two lakh pieces, you can only imagine the cost.”
