A defamation case has been filed in a local court in Patna against Slumdog Millionaire’s music director A R Rahman and actor Anil Kapoor by an office bearer of a slum dwellers' body. In his defamation suit it is alleged that the award winning film Slumdog Millionaire calls Indians dogs and slum dwellers slum dogs.

The complainant was Tapeshwar Vishwakarma, general secretary of Slum-dwellers Joint Action Committee. In his complaint he alleged that the film depicted slum dwellers in bad taste as it used the derogatory and objectionable title Slumdog Millionaire thereby calling Indians dogs and slum dwellers slum dogs, which he said is defamatory.

The chief judicial magistrate of the local court in Patna Justice Raghvendra Kumar Singh directed Mr Vishwakarma to produce evidence in support of his complaint. The judge also posted the case up to February 5 for the next hearing.

According to the paper filed by Mr Vishwakarma the meaning of Slumdog Millionaire in Hindi is the millionaire dog of slum dwellers and such a name was a violation of human rights and honour. Vishwakarma also added that he has already approached the national and state human rights commissions for necessary action against Rahman and Kapoor.
