Deepak Lalwani, Director-India at London stockbroker, Astaire became the proud recipient of “Bharat Samman Pravasi Award” at the NRI Institute’s “India International Achievers Awards 2009” which was organized in New Delhi on January 9, 2010.
 
The award is conferred on the Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) and People of Indian Origin (PIO) from different corners of the world who have done some credible job either in their particular field or have contributed significant public service in the direction of economic prosperity of India as well as their country of residence.
 
The ceremony was attended by more than 200 business leaders of Indian origin from all over the world. It was conducted at the Le Meridien Hotel in New Delhi.
 
About 20 years before, Deepak Lalwani entered into the arena of the The London Stock Exchange. He is a UK accountant (FCCA) and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment, UK (FCISI). He also serves as an Executive Board member of the UK-India Business Council. He is known for his wide Indian investments and has contributed significantly in the promotion of Indian economic stories in the West thereby influencing the investments bilaterally. He has authored the long running and globally distributed “India Report” for nearly 15 years.
 
Some of the earlier recipients of the awards from the NRI institute are The President of Mauritius, H.E. Sir Anerood Jugnauth, H.E. Nimisha Madhvani (Uganda), H.E. Mookhesswur Choonee (Mauritius), Lord Khalid Hameed (UK), Lord Rana (UK), Baroness Sandeep Verma (UK), C.B. Patel (UK) (Editor, Asian Voice) and many leading businessmen from across the globe.
