Bureau of Civil Aviation issued a hijack warning for Delhi, Bangalore and Chennai airports, following warnings from intelligence agencies. After receiving inputs from intelligence agencies about possible aerial strikes by terrorists, airports were put on high alert as the reports suggested that terrorists could have sneaked into India to carry out strikes on December 6, the anniversary of the demolition of the Babri Masjid.
Last week, the little known group Deccan Mujahideen had claimed the responsibility for the deadly attacks that claimed about 200 lives. No spy agency was able to find out the antecedents of such an outfit. Nigel Inkster, director of Transnational Threats at the International Institute for Strategic Studies in London said that the whole scenario of terrorist activities in India has changed. Earlier the country used tolerate the menace of terrorists imported from outside, but now there are several homegrown outfits.
Nigel Inkster stated that the Mumbai attackers were linked with Al Qaeda. He supported his claim by saying that it was easy for Al Qaeda to carry out attacks in India than in U.S. and Europe. Report says that U.S. officials had not heard of Deccan Mujahideen before 26/11.
