Deccan Chargers have won their fourth consecutive IPL match by beating Chennai Super Kings at Durban on Monday (April 27). Batting first, Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings scored 165 for six in their 20 overs. Australian big hitter Mathew Hayden (49) and Jacob Oram (41 not out) showed some wonderful display of shots to push Super Kings to the score of 165. Chasing 166 runs to win, Herschelle Gibbs (69 not out) and skipper Adam Gilchrist (44 off 19 balls) gave Chargers a stunning start.
The chargers won the match in 19.3 overs by losing only four wickets. The opening pair of Gilchrist and Gibbs punished the Chennai bowlers by sending theirs deliveries to all parts of the park. The former Australian wicket-keeper batsman, Gilchrist cleared his intention by hitting consecutive boundaries of the bowling of Lakshmipathy Balaji in the very first over. Gilchrist got a life in Balaji's next over when the Chennai pacer could not hold together a difficult caught-and-bowled chance.
After that, it was nearly impossible to stop Gilchrist and both the openers garnered 67 runs in no time. The chargers were moving along nicely until Suresh Raina picked up Glichrist in his very first over. Raina struck again by dismissing VVS Laxman for four runs. Although Rohit Sharma (18) and Dwayne Smith (12) fell in quick succession, but Gibbs stayed till the end to guide his team to victory.
