Deccan Chargers led by Adam Gilchrist handed the Chennai Super Kings their third consecutive defeat on Tuesday, May 06, 2008 at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Acting captain Adam Gilchrist completely took charge after the regular captain VVS Laxman had to stay back from playing the match against Chennai Super Kings owing to a hand injury. Chennai Super Kings could manage only 144 for the loss of seven wickets after the completion of twenty overs.

Adam Gilchrist first marshaled his bowlers to attack on the opposition team and later scored a quick fire 54 of just 36 balls. Gilchrist steered his team to victory with seven fours and two sixes. Chasing 145, the Deccan Chargers ended the game scoring 148 for three in just 18 overs, with Scott Syris remaining unbeaten on 36. Maahendra Singh Dhoni led Chennai Super Kings, which had a stupendous start in IPL, are suddenly out of the silken touch they had promised at the outset. They are surely missing the exit of Australian duo Matthew Hayden and Mike Hussey.
