In second branding exercise, Air Deccan after merger with Kingfisher has changed its name to Kingfisher Red. Also, the release reveals that from Friday onwards Deccan would operate under the flight code IT instead of the current DN. This Low-Cost Carrier (LCC) however, would be a separate brand from Vijay Mallya promoted Kingfisher Airlines altogether.
The LCC, known for its low fares has been losing its reputation of being called 'common man's airline' after its merger with Kingfisher Airlines in December 2007. However, the legal merger has not yet completed, and is expected to complete by this month end. Earlier, the airline was branded as 'Simplifly Deccan' in its first corporate makeover and had changed its logo to Kingfisher's logo of two palms joining together forming a flying a bird or the tail of an airplane.
The ambitious project of re-branding of the LCC would be announced soon, most probably in this week end. However, there has not been any comment from airlines' behalf on this. The Air Deccan has been moving through different phases, after starting in the year 2003 by Captain G.R. Gopinath. In the year 2007, due to heavy losses Gopinath accepted merger with Kingfisher.
