The central government on Thursday has disclosed that the central government employees and pensioners will be receiving 5% increase in the dearness allowance. This will be effective from July 2009. With this increase the total expenditure of the central government will go up to Rs 2,904 crore this fiscal.
 
This decision, adopted by the union cabinet, was disclosed by the Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni to the media. She told the media that net expenditure of the government, combing the new dearness allowance and relief, will be Rs 4,355.35 crore.
 
The impact for the current fiscal would be Rs 2903.55 crore, since the hike is effective for nine months only.
 
The minister added that the 5% increase in DA for the mentioned is in above the existing 22% of basic.
