A dossier prepared by intelligence agencies in India reveals the fact that Dawood is funding Islamic fundamentalist group SIMI in India. Incidentally, the Mumbai don is wanted for his involvement in Mumbai bomb blasts in the year 1993. His major help is an aeronautical engineer, CAM Basheer who hails from Kerala. Basheer's involvement has been confirmed after recent Ahmedabad blasts.

 

However, Dawood's link with SIMI has not surprised anybody for he has been Indian henchman for ISI. The revelation has not worried establishment authorities but the impact of linkage between underworld and terrorist outfit and huge money available to carry out disrupting activities has. Now with access to the underworld's huge coffers SIMI has become even more lethal.

 

The high level meeting attended by top officials from states, Intelligence Bureau and Home Ministry has outlined the modalities to go all out against SIMI and its various fronts. There would be complete record keeping about the activities of every individual associated with the groups. Agencies are looking for concrete evidence so that these fronts can be banned like parent body SIMI has been.
