Magician David Blaine has stunned the world by setting a world record on Oprah Winfrey’s show by holding his breath for 17 minutes and 4 seconds in a water-filled sphere. Blaine, however after setting the record told Oprah that his stunts are not about magic but pushing the limits of human body. The 35 year old wore a silver wetsuit when he entered the water sphere filled with 8,200 litres of water.
David Blaine after being pulled out from the sphere remarked that setting the world record was a ‘lifelong dream’ for him. He asserted that the record has been achieved by being in a meditative state throughout. Before getting into the water-filled sphere, Blaine stated that he felt more excited than nervous for the task ahead. The 35 year old wanted to set a 23 minute record but remarked that towards the end of his stunt he realized that his heartbeat had become somewhat irregular. Before entering the sphere David breathed fresh oxygen through a mask to saturate his blood with oxygen and flush out carbon dioxide.
