Hundreds of pro-Chinese supporters, protested against His Holiness Dalai Lama who is in Seattle to deliver lectures during a five day conference on compassion. The city’s Chinese community had remained silent until Monday when they endorsed China’s opinion of the spiritual leader outside the college arena in Seattle. The Chinese demonstrators held Dalai Lama responsible for the recent uprising in Tibet against five decades of Chinese rule.
During his lecture in the Seattle College, Dalai Lama insisted on solving problems through dialogue. Hundreds and thousands of people from all over US and beyond have flocked to Seattle to hear the exiled spiritual leader speak on compassion during the five day conference. Demonstrators held boards and placards which read ‘Tibet Part of China’, ‘Dalai – Liar and CIA funded militant’. The protestors alleged the media of having a biased stand and spoke against rioting by Tibetan monks.
His Holiness Dalai Lama, inside the college arena, received an honorary degree and spoke on solving any big problem through mutual respect and dialogue. The spiritual leader told the students that you are the ones who will make this ‘century of peace’. He further remarked that destruction of your neighbor ultimately leads to destruction of yourself. Dalai Lama was greeted by a standing ovation while the demonstrators protested outside. Seattle has always welcomed Dalai Lama warmly, who has visited the city several times prior to this visit.
