Renowned Maharashtra educationist Dnyandeo Yashwantrao Patil has assumed charge as the governor of Tripura today. He took the oath from the Guwahati High Court Chief Justice Jasti Chelameswar at the newly built Darbar Hall of Raj Bhavan.
A Padma Shri award winner, the 74-year-old Patil has been the founder of several educational and health institutions of Maharashtra. He is taking over Dr Kamla, who is the first ever women governor of Tripura. Kamla, who took oath last month in Tripura, will now assume charge as the governor of Gujarat.
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, his cabinet colleagues, leaders of different political parties and top civil, army and police officials were present in the brief oath taking ceremony.
After swearing in, he said "I shall do my best for the all round development and welfare of Tripura and its people."
"The centre and state have a common aim to flush out militancy from the north-eastern states and smooth development of the region."
