Yangon, which is the largest city and the former capital of Myanmar, has been severely hit by a cyclone. The cyclone was so bad that it blew away the roofs of houses, ripped off trees and even damaged power lines. The cyclone ‘Nargis’ that raged on through the weekend through Yangon in Myanmar has caused its streets to be piled up with debris.
The Nargis cyclone was powered by strong winds with a speed of 120 to 150 miles per hour and it literally caused a rampage in the extensive river delta city for over 10 hours from Friday (2 May) night until Saturday (3 May) noon. By the time Sunday (4 May) arrived, many parts of Yangon were left without electricity. Even the telephone lines had got disrupted, which hindered estimating the extent of damage caused by the cyclone.
