The Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium which is the prime venue for Commonwealth Games on October 3-14 is all set to be inaugurated today by M S Gill, Sports Minister.

 

The stadium was constructed in 1982 for the Asian Games and in January 2008, the remodelling of the stadium started. The stadium’s construction was supposed to get over earlier this year but the work of the project got delayed due to the building of a 150m tunnel. The tunnel has been constructed for the performers to enter the stadium, the tunnel connects both the ends of the stadium.

 

The stadium has a main building, lower tier and supporting structure for PTFE casing roof. The complete building is earthquake resistant. The stadium has a capacity of 60,000 people.
