Crompton Greaves, a prominent name in India in the field of electrical equipment manufacturing, announced on Monday 2 June that it has completed the acquisition of French firm, Societe Nouvelle de Maintenance Transformateurs (Sonomatra). CG revealed that it has bought the French Company for Euro 1.30 million. In a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange, the Crompton Greaves stated that this deal will translate into bettering its capabilities in the services segment of its transmission and distribution business.

The services provided by France’s Sonomatra or Societe Nouvelle de Maintenance Transformateurs include on-site maintenance and repair of power transformers and on-load tap changers, oil analysis, oil treatment and retro-filling. This new deal trails CG’s acquisition of a number of other international firms earlier such as that of the Belgium-based Pauwels on 13 May 2005, Hungarian based Ganz (GTV) and Transverticum Kft (TV) on 17 October 2006 and Microsol Holdings (MHL) and its associate Companies in May 2007.
