Researchers at the Glasgow University have revealed that binge eating and crash dieting can seriously affect the life expectancy of a person, especially if he or she is a child or young teenager. The researchers in their study also discovered that the difference in lifespan was not a consequence of more rapid ageing but an increase in the risk of sudden death.

The Scottish scientists have further revealed that a crash diet regime puts an individual to a 25 % more risk of a reduced lifespan. The Glasgow researchers concluded their research by comparing the growth rate, success of reproduction and lifespan of stickleback fish. Lead Researcher, Professor Neil Metcalfe asserted that uneven growth, due to the fluctuation in the amount eaten per day is responsible for the increase in the risk of sudden death. The findings are published in the journal, Proceedings of the Royal Society B.
