An analysis which was conducted on four studies says that maintaining a good control over the level of sugar in blood can reduce the risk of developing cardiac diseases and stroke in diabetics by 15%.
This is more visible in case of diabetics who do not possess any history of cardiac problems. About 27,049 patients suffering from diabetes type 2, who were provided treatment and follow up was conducted for 5 years, were assessed. In the initial study, 11,140 patients underwent assessment where as the others were assessed during the rest of the three studies.
One of the studies, ADVANCE, was initiated and designed by The George Institute of International Health (GIIH) and involved a group of independent medical researchers from 20 countries worldwide, says a GIIH release.
According to the analysis, the risk of people developing hypoglycaemia was more when the level of blood sugar was maintained whereas the risk of mortality did not increase. The researchers mention that the levels of glucose should be specifically tailored.
The new analysis is aimed to generate more precise estimates of the effects of more-intensive, compared with less-intensive, glucose control on the risk of major cardiovascular events amongst such patients.
