UPA chief Sonia Gandhi while addressing a rally of women workers in Jammu and Kashmir said that the Congress wants reservation for women in political institutions. Sonia said that congress is committed for women empowerment and will take every step for women reservation. She said that reservation in the political institutions would give women their due and will further strengthen women empowerment.
During her visit to Jammu and Kashmir's biggest housing project at Jagti in Nagrota, Ms. Gandhi was accompanied by Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Mr. Gulam Nabi Azad, Union Home Minister Mr. Shivraj Patil, Union Water Resource Minister Saifuddin Soz and the General Secretary of AICC, Mohsina Kidwai.
The housing project is for the Kashmiri pundits whose foundation stone was laid by Prime Minister Mr. Manmohan Singh last year in July. She also accused the BJP led central government of only speaking about the plight of Kashmiri migrants and praised her government of taking steps for helping them. The housing project is expected to give shelter to almost 25,000 homeless Kashmiri migrants.
