It is not even a fortnight left for Delhi Assembly elections and the electoral dice seems to have been rolling a bit faster. The Congress, in its latest bid to woo voters, has claimed to seek the “special-statehood identity” for Delhi, if it manages to retain the coveted throne. If the special status were introduced, the agencies like the Delhi Police and Delhi Development Authority, currently run by the centre, would come under the ambit of Delhi government.
In its manifesto to be released on 17 November, the Congress has claimed that, it would seek “special identity” for Delhi if it comes to power. While talking to reporters, Delhi Congress president J.P. Aggarwal said that they want the special status for Delhi so that more funds can be dedicated to the ongoing developmental process. Interestingly, the Congress Party during the 1998 and 2003 election had also campaigned for the full statehood status for Delhi.
The election manifesto of the Party also briefly covers the progress of the Commonwealth Games site and the efforts put in by the government in the last ten years. Besides, it also mentions about the Delhi Metro, Bus Rapid Transit Stretch, regularization of unauthorized colonies, Delhi Master Plan etc.
