Come Lok Sabha elections and UP will see an alliance of un-conventional political partners in the form of Congress and Samajwadi Party (SP). The agreement is true to proverb that 'there are no permanent friends, only permanent interests.' Both the parties shedding their bitter past are now intending to forge an electoral alliance for next parliamentary polls.

The talks between two parties have just completed. Amar Singh and Ramgopal Yadav were involved in talks from SP side. On the other hand, Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi represented his party. Digvijay Singh, Ex-CM Madhya Pradesh, who assisted Rahul in dealing with SP, said that there was a positive response on SP behalf on the forging of alliance.

However, there are some issues which are dogging any possibility of deal. The major issue is, if Congress seeks to deal with the rebel SP leaders, Raj Babbar and Beni Prasad Verma, the SP is likely to object. Notwithstanding, what obstacle stands in front of Cong-SP electoral pact, Mayawati would serve as common target and would unite two opposing groups.
