Former first lady and New York Senator, Hillary Clinton’s chances of getting close to the Democratic Presidential nomination remain bleak, despite her winning Puerto Rico primary on Sunday, June 1, 2008. Front-runner Barack Obama on the other hand is getting closer to clinching the party’s presidential nomination. Also, low turn out in Puerto Rico ended any chances of Clinton winning popular vote overall.

The Illinois senator has in the meanwhile already turned his attention to a general election fight with McCain. Now with just two primaries remaining tomorrow, Obama is almost certain of winning the nomination. The Obama camp claims that it is hopeful of getting the 2,118 delegates needed to clinch the nomination at the Democrat’s August convention.

Democratic senator Carl Levin of Michigan told a US TV channel on Sunday that, it is more than likely that within a week Senator Obama will have enough votes to claim that he is going to be a nominee. Obama on Saturday overcame a major hurdle as when the Democratic National Committee decided to seat the disputed Florida and Michigan convention at half strength. The decision significantly prevented Clinton from cutting Obama’s lead in the race for Democratic nomination.
