The 16th seed Marin Cilic stunned second seed Andy Murray to reach his first Grand Slam quarter-final. The Croatian defeated the British by 7-5, 6-2, 6-2 in the pre-quarters match played on Tuesday.
 
The last year's US Open runner-up would have become the first British man to win a Grand Slam title since Fred Perry in 1936.
 
Cilic will play against sixth seed Juan Martin Del Potro of Argentina to secure a place in the semi-final. The Argentine defeated Spanish 24th seed Juan Carlos Ferrero to make it to the quarters. Cilic had lost to Del Porto in the fourth round at the Australian Open this year.
 
 The Tuesday’s match saw Cilic fire 10 aces and 35 winners while Murray went 0-for-7 on break-point chances and made 41 unforced errors.
 
Clic said,"I played very well and he was missing a lot. I don't think he was playing his best."
 
Cilic, the youngest top-20 player at age 20, speaking on his making it to the final eight said, “That feels really amazing. It feels great to win that extra set."
 
Murray had beaten Cilic in their three prior meetings.The match between Cilic and Murray lasted for two hours and eight minutes.
