Churchill Brothers sailed into the IFA Shield semis at the 114th IFA Shield football tournament. Churchill defeated Lajong F. C by 2-0.In the other match, city giants Mohun Bagan had a 4-0 win over George Telegraph. The group league matches were held on Friday.
The Mohan Bagan playing in their home ground was cheered by the packed crowd. Bagan struck thrice in the first session with Edeh Chidi scoring a brace and James Singh finding the target once.
Bagan now needs a win to book their place in the semi-final. They will face Mahindra United in their next game.
The goals for Churchill Brothers came from Khan Thang Paite and striker Okolie Odafa. Both Churchill and Sporting have earned four points each, but while Churchill has a 3-1 goal difference, Sporting's figure reads 2-1.
Pait netted a goal in the tenth minute while Odafa converted penalty corner just minutes before the final whistle.
