Chris Gayle has been re-appointed as the captain of West Indies squad for the upcoming tour of Australia.Gayle had not played any international cricket since the home series against India in July due to the contractual dispute between WICB and the players’ union.
Reports say that, the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) approved the selectors’ recommendation of Gayle after a meeting in Barbados on Saturday.
Gayle spearheaded the West Indies team since 2007 but had said in May that he was not willing to continue for a long term and was also thinking to retire from Test cricket in the near future.
The WICB`s new chief executive Ernest Hilaire was disappointed with Gayle’s comments, who said in September that his future as the captain was not guaranteed. Gayle, who did not play for several months due to the player strike, was keen to make a comeback to any form of cricket.
The Squad:
Chris Gayle (captain), Adrian Barath, Sulieman Benn, Dwayne Bravo, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Narsingh Deonarine, Travis Dowlin, Brendan Nash, Denesh Ramdin, Ravi Rampaul, Kemar Roach, Darren Sammy, Ramnaresh Sarwan, Jerome Taylor, Gavin Tonge.
