A 61 year old Chinese woman was rescued on Monday, May 19, 2008 after being trapped for nearly 164 hours under the rubble. Li Ningcui was saved alive at 10.40 am from beneath the rubbles in the seat of Beichuan County in China. The sixty one year old lady was discovered by the rescuers at 9.48 am under the rubble of a bazaar in the region.
Li Hongguo, head of the rescue team sent by the Chinese Seismological Bureau remarked that the rescue team is still searching for survivors among the ruins at Beichuan. Li Ningcui immediately after her rescue was admitted to a nearby hospital and is currently recovering there. The seat of the Beichuan County was very close to the epicenter of the earthquake that measured 8.0 at the Richter scale. The death toll in the China earthquake has nearly reached 34,000 according to latest official reports.
