China on Saturday said that it will soon reopen Tibet to foreign tourists and will restore the religious services of the temples. According to the reports of the Chinese media, Tibet would be reopened to the foreign tourists on May 1, 2008, but the Chinese authorities are yet to confirm it. It is to be noted that there is world wide protests regarding the Chinese polices in Tibet and the Olympic Torch Relay has also been targeted in various parts of the world.
The Tibetans all around the world are demanding Tibet to be freed from the Chinese domination and many countries of the world have asked China to settle the matter though open dialogues with the Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama. China, however, said that Tibet is an internal affair of the country and it also severely criticized the US – Tibet resolution saying that the resolution has hurt the feelings of the Chinese people.
Ever since violence broke out in the Tibetan capital Lhasa earlier this year in March, Beijing closed Tibet for foreign tourists. Tourism plays an important part in the economy of Tibet as it is a major source of revenue. Every year many tourists visit Tibet to explore its historical temples and enjoy the exquisite beauty of the mountainous region.
