China has rolled out a plan for the relocation of an enormous population so that it can implement its south-north water diversion project. But there are experts who claim that this project can hamper flow of Brahmaputra in Assam. Indian government has also raised concerns regarding the same.

According to the Henan resettlement authorities, a massive relocation project for about 330,000 people of Hubei and Henan provinces, will be implemented so that the water diversion project moves on smoothly. Sources also mentioned that the relocation project will be complete by 2011.

Sources also mentioned that evacuation of areas located around Danjiangkou reservoir will be done so that Yangtze River can be diverted for meeting the water needs of Beijing, Tianjin, Henan and Hebei. According to sources, the people will be relocated o such areas where soil is good.

Xichuan County in Henan, which has 185 villages, will see the resettlement of 162,000 people.
