Chinese soldiers and engineers are presently trying to drain the Tangjiashan Lake in the Beichuan Country of China, as it is feared that its rapidly rising waters may submerge the nearby towns trying to recover from the recent earthquake disaster. The Tangjiashan Lake happens to be one of the 35 formed by the massive earthquake on 12 May, which killed 65,080 people and left 23,150 missing.

The state-operated Xinhua News Agency states that about 600 military engineers and soldiers since the night of 26 May are working on the barrier, which created the lake upstream from Beichuan Country. Chinese troops prepare to blast barriers caused by the country's deadliest earthquake in 32 years, which will inturn drain lakes that are threatening to burst and inundate towns trying to recover from the disaster. While bulldozers and various other digging tools are being flown in, work is also on to evacuate the people from that area.

Liu Ning, the Ministry of Water Resources chief engineer has stated that about 100,000 people will be shifted to a safer zone as the work of draining the lake is on. The Xinhua has reported that the Tangjiashan, which holds 130 million cubic meters of water, is the most dangerous of all quake lakes as its water-level has risen almost 5.2 feet. It got created after a portion of a mountain collapsed into the Jianhe River.
