As far as issues such as fertility and prospect of having babies are concerned, it was always believed that unlike women, males do not have any biological clock. That they can father a child even late in their life. But a recent study conducted by experts from the Danish Epidemiology Science Centre has rejected this assumption. These experts, on the basis of their recent study, now state that children born of fathers over 45 years of age face a double risk of dying before adulthood. The key reason this study holds for this is the declining quality of sperm as men get older.

As per this study, the children of older fathers are more likely to suffer from congenital defects apart from autism, schizophrenia and epilepsy. Jin Liang Zhu from the Danish Epidemiology Science Centre is a part of the team that has conducted this study. He states that the danger of being an older father is quite severe and this is not something that people are aware of. While conducting this study, the experts from the Danish Epidemiology Science Centre reviewed some 100,000 kids born between 1980 and 1996. It was found that 830 of them died before their 18 year and majority when they were less than a year old.
