Chief Justice of India K G Balakrishnan and 20 other Supreme Court judges have made their assets public on a website. It also has the information related to the assets of Justice B N Agrawal, who retired from service on Oct 15.
"The above declaration of assets is purely on voluntary basis," the website said. The assets of Justice H S Bedi have not been revealed, as he was not in the capital due to bereavement.
These revelations have left many people astonished. While a judge does not have even a two-wheeler, another person has just a Yamaha motorcycle. There are details of land, houses, investments in shares and flats as well.
The judges had raised voice against this step citing that this can harass them via frivolous litigation, but then they were forced to do after two High Court judges supported the step after which a Full Court meeting decided on the same on Aug 28.
