The Chennai to Hazrat Nizamuddin Duronto Express, which is the second of the non-stop trains promised by the railway Budget, was flagged off on Monday by Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram.
The 28-hour journey was kicked off on Monday morning from Chennai Central at 6.40 a.m. According to the schedule, the train will be arriving in Delhi at 10.40 a.m. on Tuesday.
The home minister said the railway ministry has agreed to increase the frequency of the train to twice a week. At present, it runs once a week.
Duronto Express comes with AC 2 and 3 tier coaches and a passenger capacity of 896. The advanced booking till Sunday night was for around 390 seats.
Union Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee has promised 14 Duronto Express trains during the railway budget. The first one between Kolkata and Delhi was flagged off by Banerjee last week.
