Perhaps the most nail biting match of the IPL was witnessed on Thursday, May 08, 2008, at the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium. In a last ball thriller Chennai Super Kings defeated Delhi Daredevils by 4 wickets to register their fifth win in the IPL. Chasing a formidable target of 188 runs it all came down to the last over of the match when Chennai needed 15 runs off 6 balls. Shewag tossed the ball to Shoaib Malik. Manpreet Gony, the tall fast bowler of Chennai hit a massive six and a four to stun Kotla. A wide and a single meant that Chennai needed 3 runs off 3 balls. Badrinath got a couple of runs followed by a dot ball. Badrinath took the match winning single off the last ball though Shikhar Dhawan made a brave attempt to catch the ball diving full length chasing it from midwicket.
Earlier batting first Delhi put up an impressive total of 187 runs on the board, thanks to good knocks played by Gautam Gambhir(80 runs off 49 balls) and Shikhar Dhawan(59 runs off 46 balls). For the Super Kings Morkel and Balaji picked up 2 wickets each whereas Gony claimed 1 victim. The Super Kings started their reply on a positive note putting up 61 runs for the first wicket in just 6 overs. S Vidyut ( 40 runs off 23 balls), Fleming (44 runs off 28 balls), Dhoni (33 runs off 33 balls) and Morkel(30 runs off 15 balls) were the notable scorers for the Chennai team. For the Daredevils Yo Mahesh and Sangwan picked up 2 wickets whereas Mohammad Asif picked up 1 wicket.
