Chennai Super Kings entered in the semi final of Indian Premier League after beating Deccan Chargers by seven wickets in their last league match on Tuesday.
Earlier, Deccan Chargers won the toss and elected to bat and scored 147/8 riding on the 76 run partnership between Venugopal Rao and Dwarka Ravi Teja; Rao scored 46 off 46 balls and Teja made 40 off 28 balls.
Chennai Super Kings surpassed the total, with 4 balls to spare, thanks to responsible batting by Suresh Raina (54 run not out) and Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni (37 run). By winning this match Chennai shattered the hope of Mumbai Indians of making it to the semi final.
Mahendra Singh Dhoni played some powerful strokes which included four fours and a huge six in his 25 ball knock and shared 55 runs partnership with Suresh Raina for 3rd wicket.
Dhoni became victim of young lad Pragyan Ojha in 17th over when Chennai still needed 17 runs of 12 balls to win the match. After fall of Dhoni, Albie Morkel joined Raina to ensure an easy win. Suresh Raina sealed the victory for Super kings by hitting six on the second ball of last over bowled by Vijaykumar and completed his half century in the process.
When the Chennai Super Kings began their chase, P Vijaykumar gave some hope to the Deccan Chargers dismissing opener Stephen Flemming (14 runs) but they could not build on to the early success as Suresh Raina and Parthiv Patel batted sensibly.
Brief Score:
