Chen Ying of China grabbed the gold medal in the Women’s 25m Pistol with her final score of 590 points. Even though Chen was five points behind Gundegmaa Otryad of Mongolia after qualification, she smashed the latter’s record with her amazing skills in the final just when it was required. Her first round of five rapid shots in the final gained 52.5 points which cut the arrears down to 3.6 after Otryad earned 51.1.

After the second round of five shots, Otryad’s lead was further decreased to 1.6 when Chen earned 53.1 and the former gained two full points less. The drama further built up when Otryad’s pistol locked up after she gained a poor 9.0 on the 11th shot. Without noticing the problems of Otryad, Chen left the Mongolian shooter behind on the leader board with 52.5 points from the third round of five shots.

After the pistol got fixed, Otryad earned only 49 in the third round of five shots, 1.9 points behind Chen. Chen gained 50.3 on her last five shots with a final score of 793.4, smashing the Olympic record. Otryad earned 51.0 and placed second with 792.2. Germany’s Dorjsuren Munkhbayar succeeded to win the bronze medal with 789.2. Fei Fengji of China came fourth with 787.9, while Maria Grozdeva of Bulgaria finished fifth in the event.
