A black British cheerleader has alleged that she was prevented by one of the organizer of the Indian Premier League tournament to perform at the IPL match, owing to her dark skin color. One of the two Black women performing at the IPL matches claimed that they were stopped from going on stage by organizers ahead of an IPL match in Mohali, Punjab. Several British newspapers carried the story about dancers Ellesha Newton (22) and Sherinne Anderson (25) about the racist slur at IPL.

Newton told a leading British newspaper that an organizer pulled them away, stating that people here do not want to see dark people. The cheerleader claimed that they were also addressed by the ‘N word’ and were told that the organizers only wanted beautiful white girls. Anderson also stated that this kind of racial slur has never been experienced by them before, not in Europe, not here and not anywhere.

Organizers of the Mohali match have in the meanwhile denied any knowledge of the incident. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has however remarked that a probe would be initiated only if an official complaint is made by the cheerleader to IPL commissioner Lalit Modi. The BCCI and IPL authorities however remarked that they are surprised that the two cheerleaders never complained to the two above stated authorities and spoke, nearly after a month after they reached London.
