Hugo Chavez's painting 'La Luna de Yare' has been bought by three Venezuelan businessmen for a record amount of $255,000. Hiroshima Bravo who is a Chavez ally and congresswoman said that her colleagues were surprised by the price paid by three Venezuelan businessmen. However, she considered the buying up of the painting a symbolic part of Venezuelan history.
 
Evidently, the painting 'La Luna de Yare,' i.e. the Yare Moon was painted by Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez during his imprisonment in Yare Jail. He was sentenced for two years for his attempt of a military coup against the existing ruler in 1992. Hiroshima Bravo declared that the money raised from the sale would be used to fund election campaign of Socialist Party.
 
The auction of the painting which is a depiction of a full moon through a jail cell's barred window, according to Bravo started with the bidding of $14,000. There were almost 40 bidders during the auction. More interestingly, according to Bravo the painting has fetched more cash than works by some of Venezuela's top artists have fetched so far.
