The Union urban development ministry is open to a CBI probe into the alleged scam in allotment of DDA flats in the capital and has asked the DDA not to begin allotting flats till a ‘high-level ’ internal inquiry by DDA officials , ordered by it on Monday (5th January), is complete.

This would be the second inquiry into the suspected scam as the economic offences wing of Delhi Police is already probing the matter. Union urban development minister S Jaipal Reddy told reporters that DDA has been asked to conduct a high-level internal inquiry through officers who were not part of the draw of lots.

On the BJP’s demand for a CBI inquiry, he said that after examination of DDA’s inquiry reports and if necessity occurs, then government will not hesitate to go for that.

Earlier large numbers of miffed applicants under the banner of DDA Flat Applicants’ Association have demanded a CBI probe into the recent allotment of DDA flats through the draw of lots. They accused the DDA and banks of having earned interest worth crores. They demanded that DDA should be penalized.
