World famous Canadian singer, Celine Dion was proclaimed a Knight in the Legion of Honor on Thursday, May 22, 2008 at the Elysee Palace in France by President Nicolas Sarkozy. This is the second award she has received from the French authorities; in 1990 she was made a Knight of the Orders of Arts and Letters. The official ceremony of bestowing the honor on Celine was attended by many of her relatives.
French President Nicolas Sarkozy after decorating her with the honor remarked that France thanks her as because of her talent and success; the influence of French language has increased outside the nation’s borders. Celine after receiving the honor remarked that she shares the medal with her relatives who were present along with her at the ceremony and accepted it in the name of her father.
The proud daughter told President Sarkozy that her father would have been really been proud to be here and shake your hand to se his youngest daughter honored by France. Her father passed away five years ago. The famed singer finally thanked her mother asserting that it is owing to her that she has received her medal. The prestigious decoration was established by the famous king of France, Napoleon Bonaparte in 1802 and is the highest decoration in France awarded for outstanding services to France regardless of the nationality of the recipient.
