Canadian singer and occasional songwriter and actress, Celine Dion has been conferred an honorary doctorate in music by Laval University in Quebec City.  The award was given to Dion on Thursday, August 21. The day after, she was scheduled to perform for free at the 400th birthday celebrations of Quebec City in Canada.

 

Born to an impoverished family in 1968 as the 14th child of her parents, Celine Dion has not even attended the high school. Therefore accepting the honorary doctorate from Laval University before 800 people, Celine Dion remarked that this degree was a great honour for 'a little girl from Charlemagne.' It was the superintendent of Laval University Denis Briere, who presented the Canadian singer with the honorary doctorate.

 

Celine Dion wholeheartedly thanked the university for the honour. She than said, 'If there is something that has guided my life, it's my wish to excel and go further, to the maximum of my abilities, to the top of my goals, my hopes and my dreams.' Then she added that the school life is also very important referring to her unfinished high school education.
