Chennai will soon be getting its revamped airport as the Airport Authority of India has offered the Rs 12,000 crore-project to Chennai-based infrastructure company Consolidated Construction Consortium Limited (CCCL). As per reports, the expansion work of airport is supposed to be completed by 2011. CCCL will be assisted by Canadian infrastructure company Herve Pomerleau International to complete this mega task. Under the expansion plan, a mini flyover of one km will come up at the new terminals for domestic and international flights. At present, the Chennai Airport is capable of accommodating four million passengers. After the expansion, it will be able to handle 16 million passengers.
Besides the expansion project, CCCL will also work on Chennai Airport’s cargo complex project worth Rs 68 crore. The CEO of CCCL, R Sarabeswar expressed his delight for bagging the multiple airport projects. He said that these works will make the company's portfolio strong besides helping it to stand out as the major company in airport infrastructure space. The Company is hopeful of earning good profit from the projects. CCCL has employed L&T, Punj Lloyd and Nagarjuna Constructions for these airport projects. Besides the Chennai airport project, CCCl will also develop the Trichy, Dehradun and Mangalore airports.
