Carol Huynh of Canada won the gold in the Women's Freestyle Wrestling 48 kilogram weight class final. To get this glistening gold medal, Huynh had to defeat the defending wrestler Icho Chiharu of Japan. Huynh won the first period 4-0 with a three-point record. However, Icho tried her best in the second period, yet she lost 2-1. After this success, Huynh became the first female wrestler of Canada to win an Olympic gold medal.
In fact, this gold medal is also Canada’s first gold medal at the Beijing Games. Icho, the silver medalist in 48kg category at Athens, has won all the subsequent major international events, including two World Cups, two World Championships and the 2006 Asian Games. She fought with all the adversaries to reach the finals, however, got placed second. In contrast, this is the best senior result of Huynh, who has won only two senior championships before this tournament.
