Cape Cobras crushed Otago Volts by 54 runs in the Group C match of the Champions League Twenty20 tournament which was held at the Rajiv Gandhi International stadium in Hyderabad on Saturday.

Otago, which won the toss, had elected to field first, which proved to be a wrong decision for the team. Cobras, who had won the first match of the league against the Royal Challengers, were in good form. Chasing the decent 194 target in 20 overs, Otago succumbed for a 139 off 17.1 overs after Cobras grabbed all their wickets, leaving them to nowhere.

Nathan McCullum had been the showstopper for Otago.

Cape Cobras who started batting showcased a treat for the cricket lovers with skipper Andrew Puttick scoring his maiden century of the league. The undefeated 104 from the skipper and the 95-run stand between Puttick and Jean Paul Duminy, who scored a 32, helped Copbras to set a target of 194 for the Otago.

Otago made a good start with Brendan McCullum (21) and Aaron Redmond (14) but after Brendan was run out, the batsmen failed to get a decent partnership and paid the price for poor running between the wickets.
