The wildfire which occurred in southern California on Saturday afternoon spread further, resulting in evacuation of over one thousand people from their homes on Sunday, 27 April 2008. The cause of the 400 acre fire is still unknown and under investigation. Humidity and low winds are however expected to ease the firefighting efforts in the forest.
Temperatures were reported to climb to 36o C on Sunday, which according to the firefighters is a positive sign that would aid them in controlling the fire. Elisa Weaver, spokeswoman for the city of Sierra Madre, California remarked that about 400 to 500 homes were under mandatory evacuation order, though only one building – a small storage shed has burned. About four hundred firefighters have been assigned the job of curbing the fire. It is being speculated that it will take a total of about four to five days to fully contain the fire.
