US President George Bush complimented his French counterpart Nicolas Sarkozy for his taste in spouse. The most powerful man in the world, heaped praise on First Lady Carla Bruni, describing her as a really smart and capable woman. Bush further added that he could see why Sarkozy married her. The US President made these compliments in Paris on his last leg of European tour as President.
President Bush frequently addressed his French counterpart by his first name. He in Paris noted that America’s first friend was France, helping win independence from Britain. The US President also showered praises on Nicolas Sarkozy himself. Mr. Bush said that Nicolas is an interesting guy, full of energy and wisdom and tells him what’s on his mind. He further remarked that every time he has had talks with Sarkozy, they have been meaningful discussions.
During a joint press conference at the Elysee Palace, the two men emphasized the strength of relations between the United States and France. After tensions over Iraq, the visit is seen as a sign of further reconciliation between the two nations. President Bush had arrived in Paris from Rome, where he met Pope Benedict XVI. The US President will travel to Britain on Sunday, where he is expected to meet Queen Elizabeth II and hold talks with Prime Minister Gordon Brown.
