In a shocking incident, a tourist from Ukrania was killed and three others injured on Sunday, June 1, 2008 when a bus hit them at the departure terminal at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport. The accident occurred at the peak time of airport, around 12.45 am, when the departure terminal was extremely crowded. A source present at the airport remarked that, the airport was completely packed when the incident took place, so it is a miracle that only one person has died.

The victims were collecting their luggage from the baggage hold compartment of a coach of the International Airport, when a bus carrying the crew of an international airline hit them from behind. The Ukrainian tourist Mykhailo Bershadsky, died almost immediately while three others were injured, one of them gravely.

Witnesses say the driver of the private bus was unable to put brakes on time and hit the passengers standing besides the coach. The driver has been arrested in a case of causing death by negligent and rash driving. The driver was not drunk.
