The budget session of parliament started today with a violent note as majority of the entire opposition staged angry protests over the hike in petrol and diesel prices, forcing the speaker to suspend the Lok Sabha for some time.
The protest, led by the Left parties, started soon after Speaker Meira Kumar concluded reading obituary references to two former members, a few minutes after the house assembled.
The house had to be adjourned by her for 20 minutes when her repeated requests failed to pacify the Left parties, who were joined by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and virtually the entire opposition.
The government on Wednesday had announced a hike of Rs.4 per litre on petrol and Rs.2 on diesel prices.
